Is It Safe to Send Money to a Girl You Met Online?

If you’ve been talking to a woman from another country for a long time, you may have developed some feelings for her.  This is a natural occurrence, especially if you spend a lot of time communicating with her and sharing her wishes and hopes for the future.  So, what if she has a problem and needs some money – is it safe to send money to a girl you’ve never really met?  The short answer – no.  Here’s why.

Scammers

Unfortunately, there are many scammers who will use the emotions and feelings of a man to get him to send her money.  It usually works by the man and woman conversing for a while until the man has developed some sort of feelings for the woman.  Once she is convinced that he cares for her, she will either hint that she needs money or ask for it.  She will usually have some reason for needing the money that would prevent her from talking to the man again.  For instance, her electricity is about to be turned off and therefore she will no longer be able to communicate with him on the computer.

Or, something has happened and someone in her family needs medical care.  These are classic ways of pulling on the man’s heart strings and making him feel like sending the money to her.  This is what she is counting on.  Then, after he sends money once or twice, he never hears from the girl again, which is pretty sad considering he cared for her.

Even Scarier

Another thought that is even scarier is the fact that some of these scammers are not even the women they’re supposed to be.  People find pictures of beautiful women, create profiles and pretend to converse with men in order to make the men care for them.  The entire time the man thinks he is speaking to a woman, he is really just dealing with a con-artist.  This is a disturbing and scary thought! 

While it’s possible that your woman is completely honest and legitimate, why take the chance of being scammed?  There are a few ways to dig into the situation and determine whether you’re really conversing with an honest woman or a scammer.  If she is afraid her electricity is going to be turned off, offer to pay her a visit and bring her the money physically.  Chances are, if she’s a scammer, she will have excuses as to why this can’t happen.

If she needs an item, (like a computer because her current one is getting taken away for some reason), let her know that you have an old computer she could use which works fine.  See how she responds to this answer – if she’s a scammer, she is not going to want this old computer – she wants cash!  However, if she legitimately wants to talk to you, she will take any solution available to her.

Although many men would feel like the right thing to do would be to send money to the woman he cares about, that’s often what these scammers count on in order to pull off their fake and elaborate schemes.  Never send money to a girl, period!
